Re: Statistic of Lawyers

Dear Reader:

I don't know exactly how many of us there are, but I have recently heard that there are somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,000,000 lawyers, not all of whom work as lawyers on a daily basis. There are many of us in law enforcement (the FBI recruits lawyers); in politics (Mrs. Clinton); in news (Catherine Crier was a judge at one time); and in other professions (tax accountants are often lawyers too). And more than a few retired or in jail.

I don't anyone knows the percentage of women lawyers, but it is well known that more than half of all current law students are women. It has been that way for a while.

You can probably get all the numbers from the American Bar Association, which has a big website, and it takes calls at its office in Chicago.
