Legal Question in Family Law in New York

My ex-husband was paying child support, and has just lost his job. Am I still entitled to receive support if he has assets? Is he 'off the hook' for paying child support as long as he is unemployed? (Ie. he doesn't have to pay now, and he doesn't owe me 'missed' payments once he is employed). He has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, and failed to receive tenure at a nearby university. His position ended June 30. Our divorce was mediated, and he hired the lawyer to review/submit the mediated document.

He isn't "off the hook" until the court says he is relieved from child support or orders a lower support payment. If he stops paying over several periods, file a motion for contempt.
