Legal Question in Civil Litigation in New York

I have a signed agreement with an old room mate clearly stipulating that if one person should leave before the lease, how much they will be reimbursed for the purchase of furniture etc.

Is this contract legally binding? I am honoring 80% of the contract, but would like to get out of a small part of the contract (value $225). He is threatening a civil action against me but he lives in the UK and I am based in the US.

He said that once he raises a civil action I will be legally liable for his legal fees, damages as well as the $225.

It sounds as though he is trying to bully and threaten me and I can't imagine this would all be worth the $225.

Please help!

You're admitting to a breach of contract and your roommate has jurisdictional issues with obtaining and enforcing a judgment. Therefore, it may be in both parties' interests for you to offer a compromise of $100 to put the matter behind both of you.
