Legal Question in Immigration Law in New York
Tax Form W-7 Question
I am writing this on behalf of a friend of mine. She entered the U.S. legally through a work agency. Her visa has now since expired and she never obtained a social security number. She is currently working. Her employer has instructed her to fill out IRS tax form W-7. What are the legal implications in filling out this form? Does she risk deportation? She really wishes to remain in this country.

Any illegal act may subject an alien to deportation. She should consider regularizing her stay
