terminated while sick

i was out sick for two1/2 weeks, while still the hospital i received a certifies letter from my employer stating that i was terminated.

i would like to know is this legal?

or am i protected under the law?

The question really boils down to a separate question: Were you terminated because of your illness or for some other reason. IF you can show that you were terminated solely or primarily due to your illness you may be able to recover damages -- provided that after the recovery you were ready, willing and able to perform the functions of your job as before.
