Legal Question in Real Estate Law in New York

real estate brokerage

Hello. I am a real estate broker, who has matched a buyer's broker with a listing broker. Property wasn't on MLS, but I was aware of it possibly being a ''fit'' for the broker representing the buyer. So, I put them in contact with each other. Can I legally collect a commission or fee by matching them, although I am neither the listing nor buyer broker? If so, is there an agreement that I can have them sign, to discourage them from bypassing (going around) me in the deal.

Re: real estate brokerage

You could have asked for a referral fee and legally collected it BEFORE you hooked everyone up. But, right now, they have no legal obligation to give you anything more than a "thank you."
