Legal Question in Criminal Law in North Carolina

research

How do I find a opinon (case) that was in the year 1876?

How do I find ''sufficiency of indictments'' (1956)? None of these opinions are in the Law Library in my state.

The cites are: State v. Rinehart, 75 N.C. 52 (1876) and Sufficiency of Indictments, 35 N.C.L. Rev. 118 (1956).

Re: research

If you are in North Carolina, you should be able to locate both these at a University Library (undergraduate or law) or the supreme court library. The first citation is from the North Carolina Reporter and because it is so old, you may need to get the librarian to show you where those volumes are located. The first number is the volume, the second is the page. The Law Review article would definitely be at the North Carolina law school and they probably would be happy to mail you a copy.

Re: research

These would be very difficult for you to find. The first is a case citation. Some NC opinions are online, but not from 1876. If you really need it, I can e-mail it to you. A thorough law library would have this (e.g. at a law school's library). As for the latter, that is a Law Review article. Again, this is not easy for you to obtain, outside of a law library or access to a provider (e.g. Lexis or Westlaw). Sometimes you can call the North Carolina Supreme Court librarian and get copies of such things. I am puzzled, however, at this inquiry unless it is academic research. Such old authorities are probably very poor sources for current law.
