i will soon have a workers comp hearing, what should i expect? i`ve been told thru the grapevine that my former employers loss prevention has asked former fellow employees to testify to what amounts to ''breakroom gossip''..will the commission accept such testimony?

Re: workers comp hearing
Although not required, you probably need a lawyer.
At a minimum, you need to review the Industrial Commission's website (and materials located thereon) to be as familiar with the process as possible. Be prepared to prove the elements of your case, either by way of documents, testimony or other means. You may need to subpeona some people to hearing yourself, and will need to depose some of your doctor's to obtain needed expert medical testimony. There are doubtless other issues that need to be more specifically addressed as well. Again, you probably need a lawyer.
The hearing officer will likely give you time to find a lawyer if you ask for a continuance. As for the Commission's web address, you can link from ncdisability.com.
Good luck!
