Legal Question in Consumer Law in Ohio

verbal contract

I restored car for a person under the verbal contract that he would pay $2500 to me if the car was sold. car was sold and he did not pay me. He then sent me cashiers check to buy more cars. Instead of buying cars i kept money for payment. Now the person whom he borrowed money from for car says he will sue for the money and take me to jail. cashiers check was made out to me with ''3 charger purchase'' in the note line of cashiers check. Telling me that since I signed check that it is a written contract that i have to buy cars or return money. I will still be unpaid for services. What can be done and is this legal.

Re: verbal contract

it is my opinion that you could use the check to reduce the debt. The problem is between your friend and the one who wrote the check initially.
