Re: aggravated menesing

A pre-sentence investigation (or PSI) is simply that, an investigation by the court prior to issuing a sentence. Typically, the court is able to see if that person has ever been in trouble before, and if they have, what type of trouble.

As an example, if the probation department runs a criminal check and your friend's record comes back clean (without anything on it) he will probably be given a light sentence. If he has been in constant trouble, he will get a more strict sentence. PSI's are done in those cases where the judge really doesn't know how to treat the crime and/or the convicted individual.

It's hard to believe that he already pled to this crime. Seems as though he would have beaten the case at trial. The purpose of the PSI is to see how he should be punished. He had better have a lawyer.
