Ex-husband files contempt of court motion

My wife's ex has filed a contempt motion because she has been late a few times paying a loan that they both held while married, but given as her responsibility in the divorce. Can someone really be held in contempt for being late on a loan payment?

Re: Ex-husband files contempt of court motion

I would suggest you get a lawyer. First of all, any deviation from a court order (which would be the case if the debt obligation is part of the divorce decree) is arguably contempt of court. I would think it unlikely that a small non-substantive deviation is going to lead to a finding. But it would be best to run it by an attorney in your locality to get a more specific opinion.
