service contract reassignment

i entered into a contract for uniform rental. contract stated it will renew for like terms at end of term unless notified 90 days in advance. 3 months before original term was up company sold out to another company. this company is a company i did not want to do buisness with so about 2 weeks before term was up i informed this company i will no longer be using them. no they are are trying to sue me for breach of contract for the remainder of the like term (2 years). i plan on defending myself in court and any information you could give me will be very helpfull.

It depends on whether the contract contained an assignment clause. If one existed and the company could assign the contract without your consent, it is a binding contract. If no assignment clause existed, I would make the argument that the contract could not be assigned
