small claim for 92 year old

my mother was sued from a handman for work he did not do or got paid for in cash. she could not attend hearing so now they expect her to pay over a thousand dollars. what can i do?

Your mother may have waited too long to appeal the case but it would be a good idea to talk directly to an attorney ASAP. There may be grounds to ask the court to vacate the judgment.
