Legal Question in Employment Law in Ohio

Funeral Pay

Can am employer refuse to give you even 1 day of pay for a funeral? My 10 year old daughter passed away and my employer is saying they don't have to give me any time off with pay. They also told me that I don't need time to greive.

Re: Funeral Pay

The law does not require employers to provide bereavement leavepaid or unpaid. Therefore, as incredibly insensitive as it is, not only may your employer refuse to give you any paid time off, it can refuse to give unpaid time off. If you are a member of a union, see what, if anything, your CBA says on the matter. Also check any employee handbooks or written policies of the employer, if any, to determine if the employer has any written bereavement policies. Unfortunately, short of that, there is little you can do.
