Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

Civil Judgement

I was looking into buying a house in NJ and a credit counselor checking my credit says that there is a civil judgement against me in Phila. Civil Court. My questions are:

What is a civil Judgement and how do you track down the source ? Do I need a lawyer to track it down?

Does a civil judgement in phila. apply in NJ when trying to buy a house?

Any advice would be appreciated..........Thanks

Re: Civil Judgement

You can search by name for civil judgments in Philadelphia County at http://dns2.phila.gov:8080/fjd/owa/zk_fjd_public_qry_00.zp_main_idx.

Please feel free to contact me if I may be of further assistance.

Re: Civil Judgement

You can access the Philadelphia docket on line to determine the judgment. The judgment acts as a lien on any real estate you own in the county where the judgment is entered. If New Jersey has the same law, the judgment could be transferred to the county where you buy your house and it will become a lien on your new home.

You are better advised to deal with it now, rather than have it haunt you later. Also, this is a debt which should be addressed.

I trust this has been helpful, but feel free to call or e-mail on a free initial basis.
