Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Pennsylvania

Statue of limitations on a debt

Hi - I was recently contacted by a creditor claiming an outstanding credit debt that ''supposedly'' went into default in 1989 and was never paid. The amount of that debt, according to creditor was $2600 and is now $4000. The bank records proving payment was made have long since been destroyed and there is no mention of the creditor on my credit reports. I have a credit report from 06/2002 and this creditor is not on there. What is the stautue of limitations for collection of a debt incurred in Pennsylvania in 1989?

Re: Statue of limitations on a debt

More information is needed to properly evaluate your question. There is a four year statute of limitations on contract debts. That being said, it is important to know whether the debt was reduced to judgment. If there is a judgment there are other issues that must be discussed. Suggest you consult with legal counsel.
