Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Pennsylvania

Boyfriend abruptly moved out, now wants security deposit...

About a month ago my boyfriend left, came home and he was gone, found out he moved out of state to NY, no notice to landlord. Both of our names were on lease. I'm now giving 30 days required notice to landlord and she told me he had called a while back and told her that the money was his and I had nothing to do with it andhe should have it retured to him in the full amount. She, the landlord, wants to split it between us. I've been living in the residence, paying rent. Shouldn't I receive the full amount? And is he legally responsible for the bills he hasn't paid since leaving, such as rent/utilities?

Well when you leave you have to notify the landlord in writing where to send the security deposit. Otherwise certain protections provided by the landlord tenant act may not be available to you.

first, I try talking to you landlord and explain that you kept the to the terms of the lease and he didn't.

Also, did he put his request in writing? If not that might be another point to bring up.

As to the bills it depends if his name as well as yours is on the agreements leading to the bills.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me the initial consultation is free.
