Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Pennsylvania

Does the surviving parent of only child need will?

I am an adult only child. My father is deceased. Is is really necessary for my mother to have a will? The only asset that she possesses is a house valued at approximately $100,000. Thank you.

Yes. First it makes the estate easier to probate. Second, are either of the parents of the surviving parents living. If so they would be entitled to part of the estate. Third if the assets of the estate are modest and there is only one person who would inherit it would be a short quick will to write. Hence, not cost you all that much probably less that $200. I know like that sound like a lot but without it you'll spend a lot more probating the estate as an intestacy.

Think of it as insurance against unknown heirs and other problems.
