Will in Probate

Currently my ex- father in law has passed. The executor of the estate has at the lawyers request...asked for my childrens social security numbers with correct spelling of their names and addresses. My kids are between 15-19 yrs old. Why would the lawyer need the social security numbers?

Re: Will in Probate

The executor has a fiduciary responsibility to the estate. As such he must account for each and every distribution to the beneficiaries of the estate. By securing the social security numbers and correct spelling of names the executor can account for the distributions from the estate to your children. Additionally, the estate may have stocks, bonds or other securities that are intended for your children and as these are regulated investments a social security number is required for these assets to be transfered.
