Legal Question in Family Law in South Carolina

Non support arrest

I have a friend whose ex-husband has been arrested for non support. He is over 5 digits behind. She is being pressured by her teenage son. He thinks and has been told that she can go to family court and drop the charges for non support. he was originally ordered to pay through the court system in S.C. Can she do this or is this just the wishes of a teenage son?
