Legal Question in Consumer Law in South Dakota

Business Responsibility

I bought a water softner a few years ago, and at the time the company said after three years the water softner would be free because of a $2,000 rebate that would be given after three years, but it needed to be financed for five years for that to happen. After three years, I called the company and they said the rebate company that was offering the promotion went out of business and now the rebate company was being investigated by the state of Missouri and the FBI for fraud. My question is whether or not the water softner company would have any legal responsibility in paying the rebate?

Re: Business Responsibility

Generally, in the absence of FRAUD, this would be contract matter. Do you still have original documents? If not they could be SUBPOENAED from company.
