Legal Question in Civil Rights Law in Texas

My court appointed attorney is clealy NOT doing one iota more than is absolutely required of hin to get by, and seems to have no interest in seriously working for justice in my case, which has already impacted my life in severe and negative ways and will do much more damage if I have no decent representation. THough he agrees that the police were out of line and though the police's own video depict the police trying to convince the witness to change the otry so thea I would seem guilty of something, whivh, in factg, I was not.

What can I do? I'm told the county, "Caldwell in TX" is corrupt and poor and does these things to get all kinds of fees etc. even though they end up dropping cases due to no evidence....they KEEP all the feels and court costs and bond money even though dismissed......so that's wy, the lawyer tells mje that I can't expect a fair settlement or trial with this county and so he won't even try. In jail, I was mocked and mistreated all night long and my doctors fax convenientlyt "lost" so that the magistrate who set my bail didn't know that I no longer faced a felony based on the fact that it was a prescription drug in a pill caswe I had with me that they got all riled up about. Once it finally caught up to the courts that I did have a lettrer from the doctor and that it was there from day one and the jailer had concealed it as she'd threateneed to do just too make my life miserable as she seemed to hate disabbled folks with a vengeance. These people have take the rest of my life from me over something I did not do and now I'm faced with EITHER paying them MORE money for dismissing me, or being able to pay for my much needed medication that keeps me alive.....I already have no foood, home, or car due to this ordeal.

Help me please!

Lori

You do not have a right to choose your court appointed lawyer. However, if you believe that attorney is not doing his/her job, first, get an appointment with the attorney, then at the appointment, face to face, tell the attorney how you feel, and tell the attorney what you think is wrong with his/her actions in representing you. In other words, let him/her know, face to face, what the problems are with his/her representing you. If that does not get you anywhere, then at your next court date, ask the judge to be allowed to speak regarding the services of your attorney. When you are allowed to speak, tell the judge what is happening and not happening in regards to your court appointed lawyer. The judge can appoint you a new lawyer, but will not do so unless you convince him/her that you must have another lawyer. If the judge does not appoint you another lawyer, then get another appointment with your court appointed lawyer and go see him/her and then try to work things out. You can always file a complaint with the State Bar of Texas, also. BUt I would not do that until you have tried to work things out with the lawyer appointed to help you. As far as all the other things you wrote about, I am not sure what your question is.
