Legal Question in Credit and Debt Law in Texas

If a bad debt was sold to a debt collection company for an unpaid credit card, can you go back to the orignal credit card company and negotiate a payoff settlement? Or your only option is to negotiate with the company who bought the debt from the credit card company?

If the credit card company actually sold the debt, then they have no authority to negotiate with you. If the case is merely assigned for collections, then they MIGHT be willing to negotiate with you.
