Legal Question in Criminal Law in Texas

My son accidently dropped his 4month old baby while attempting to make a bottle of milk and carry the baby. He was living in Texas at the time. He ran to a neighbor who took him to the hospital. He was fearful of being deported so he initially told the staff that the baby was dropped by the baby's sibling but then admitted to the truth. He left Texas and returned to Florida not completing the judge orders of parenting classes etc.The baby is ok but he was charged with being a fugitive and during a traffic stop arrested and extradited to Texas to face charges. He is being told that the charge of reckless child injury has a penalty up to 20 years in jail. My son is very afraid and continues saying it was a accident and he would never hurt his child. What can we do to defend him? Who do we go to?

This is a difficult situation, but please do not discuss these details of the case in a public forum. The best thing you can do for him, is to hire a lawyer in the county where he is detained. He will need a lawyer that has immigration and criminal defense experience, to best serve him. Since he has been detained on the criminal charge, unless the immigration matters are also resolved, he will still have serious consequences even if the assault is resolved.
