Default Dad's estate... What is this and should i sign it?

My dad passed away almost 3 years ago with no will and his lawyer is just now sending me documents that i have to sign but i have no idea what they mean. It's called Waiver and renunciation of rights to letters of administration. and its asking me to waive and renounce my right to be appointed independent administratrix and to receive letters of administration in decedent's estate in favor of my step mother who is qualified person. What is this and should i sign it

Not until you first discuss it with an attorney experienced in Probate, Wills and Estates. You have giving up important rights, and any oral promises will be unenforceable.
