Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Texas

last month's rent

I paid 675.00 for last months rent. I

have the checks to show this. The

person I paid in 2005 sold the

property in 2006 and I was told all

would be the same as per the

contract. It was sold again in 2007

and again I was told the contract

would stay the same. All payments

for future rent were paid to a

property manager. I moved and they

are paying me my secutiry deposit

but refuse to pay the last month;s

rent because they said it was never

collected at the closings. I have tried

to contact the original owner, he is

not calling me back. How do I get

my money back? Who is

responsible?

Re: last month's rent

It depends on the documents signed at closing. I would try and collect from both of them, but if you are unsuccessful, I would sue them both in small claims court for return of your money. I would also ask for treble damages (triple the amount) and all costs since this would fall under the consumer laws. Good luck.
