Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

the father of my child was arrested for assault and battery on a family member, and hes was released a few days later and a few weeks after i received a letter from the police department informing me that i now had a warrent for my arrest assault and battery on a family member and that im to go to the police department as soon as possible but it was the father of my child that hit me... what does this mean for me?
