Legal Question in Criminal Law in Virginia

My roomate took 485 dollar dress of mine. She did not tell me she was taking it. It is a very sentimental dress to me that I would NEVER lend to anyone. She took this dress then gave it away to someone, again not telling me she did. I do not know when she took it but when I was cleaning my room and the closet it was in, it was not there. When I asked her if she knew where it was she told me that she lent it to one of her friends for prom but the friend did NOT wear it. I then saw an update on facebook of the friend that my roomate lent it toand I saw she did in fact wear the dress. The friend also asked me before if i had any dresses she could borrow and I said no, because i did not want anyone wearing that dress. I then told the friend to ask my roomate because i knew she had dresses from her old proms. But as I said my roomate gave MY dress to the friend without asking me. Do I have a case?

Yes, however a civil rather than criminal case. You could sue this roommate in your local small claims court for the fair market value of this dress at the time it was taken + court costs.
