Legal Question in Family Law in Virginia

Fire Attorney

I have been subpeonad for motion to reduce child support by my ex-husband. The court date was 12/7/05. I retained a lawyer, who had the date posponed until 1/18/06. I have since found the lawyer to be extremely arrogant, callous and condescending. I contacted him yesterday to see where we were and if I needed to do anything. He immediately jumped on the defensive and said I was supposed to file a petition for my ex to pay half of the medical insurance already and its too late now. I told him I wasn't instructed to do so. He lashed out at me and in so many words called me a liar. I told him I had recieved 3 letters from his office, none of which mentioned that I needed to file the petition. That just made him more condescending. I reminded him I hired him because I need his expert advice not to be belittled. I think he dropped the ball, but is directing the blame to me. I then said ''what further can I do at this point?''. He was nasty to me. I don't want him to represent me. I don't think his arrogance will help me in court. I want to fire him. At what point in the process can I do so? Will it hurt my case to fire him now? Should I do it the day of the hearing? What can be done about Lawyers like this? Can I report him?

Re: Fire Attorney

Who's working for whom? Once you've arrived at the one and only correct answer to this question, then, hopefully(or it is to be hoped---tbgc) you will then be able to muster the temerity to fire the S.O.B.with the law license who purports to be representing your best interests as his client.

No apologies required, and the sooner you notify the judge on your case, the better---for you and your case.
