Legal Question in Traffic Law in Virginia
motorcycle permit only....
I had taken a MSF class a few months prior and obtained a learner's permit for my motorcycle, I passed the written test but did not pass the skills part - had problems with the U-turn. I was scheduled to take a Basic Rider Course on the Naval Base where I worked, and I had a letter authorizing me to get on the Naval base to attend but because I had forgotten my registration I could not attend the class & rescheduled. So while I was driving home, it was raining hard and my back tire slid and I was in an 'accident' but did not hit anyone nor caused any collision as a result. After moving my bike out of the way, I ended up getting a traffic ticket from a responding policeman who was called out -- because I only had my learner's permit and no licensed driver with me. I've never been in any trouble before, no other issues. What can I expect? I was told this is a class 2 misdeamor and I might even get jail time! I was also told by an ex-policeman to ''never plead guilty no matter what''! What do I do?

Re: motorcycle permit only....
No, no ticket to jail for you, but I have to disagree with the ex cop's pronouncement; sometimes it makes sense "to cop a plea" which could possibly be the situation in your case.
