Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Virginia

Pay on Death CD

My mother in law is listed as POD on Certificate of Deposits (CDs)owned by a recently deceased family member. We know the name of the bank, but do not have a death certificate. The executor, POA, and sole heir has indicated that he intends to keep the CDs until maturity and then renew them in his own name. Is this legal? What can be done to obtain these CDs for my Mother in Law?

Re: Pay on Death CD

Well, what are you waiting for? Get a certified copy of the death certificate from the local agency which handles such matters and present it to the bank with a demand for payment.
