Legal Question in Criminal Law in India

When a thief was caught, the police confiscate the property stolen by the thief and also put him behind the bar. If so, when a politician loots the country and gets caught and proved, why not confiscate the looted property from that politician while put him behind the bars? Is there not any provision in the IPC for such thing? Classic case is Lalu Prasad. He has been convicted, put behind the bars and now out of jail. Why the looted property has not been confisicated?
