Legal Question in Family Law in Alabama
Family law - custody dispute
I'm writing on behalf of my brother. He and his wife divorced a year ago. Since then, my brother has been granted custody of their four year old by a judge in Alabama where they both reside. The judge has since retired. Now the ex wife has gone to another county in Alabama to get a sheriff to come and take the four year old child back. My brother wants to get custody back as was granted by the court, but doesn't know where to start... who to contact... what to have ready. He also can't afford formal legal services. Any guidance would be most appreciated. Thank you.

unfortunately it would be important to know what the Alabama judge orders were and the basis for those. He is going to need a lawyer. If it is family court, usually they will appoint a lawyer for him.
