Legal Question in Insurance Law in Alabama
automobile insurance
i have the title of a older model ford truck that i just pay liability insuranse on. my question is if one of my family members wants to use it for awhile, to haul off stuff like furniture, things to take yo garbage dump, etc. and the relative offered to pay the insurance on the truck,if the relative has a wreck in our truck since the title is in our name could we be sued, or would the relative be responsible. and since they offered to pay the insurance on it, which is practically nothing because it is a old truck, if the mean to pay us to pay the insurance through our insurance company, would it not make since for them to pay it through thier own insurance company. regardless if you are on the title of a automobile in alabama, and someone else is driving and causes a accident can we be sued, or would the relative we loaned it to be responsible. and when they offered to pay the insurance would it not be smart of us for them to add it off of our ins. and on to thiers. even with that ,could we still be sued or responsible if the title is in our name. thankyou. i cant wait to hear the answer because everyone has told me different answers each time. thankyou for your time, and knowledge.-

Re: automobile insurance
Regardless of who is driving, unless they stole it, the insurance is in your name, so you are responsible. But, if there were a wreck, your insurance company has to provide the lawyer and pay the settlement out of their funds. If you feel uncomfortable with that answer, add an rider to your policy that covers all drivers if there isn't already one there.
Thanks!
