Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in Alabama
Can a landlord renew a yearly lease for an apartment without giving any notice (either verbal or written)? I moved into the apartment four years ago and am now attempting to give 60 day notice as I want to move further away from disruptive younger tenants that have moved into the building, but I am being told I have to wait until my lease is up as I have an automatic renewal. The landlord has never in 4 years given me a renewal notice which I thought meant my lease moved into a month-by-month basis.

You have to review the terms of your original lease. It may state in there that it is renewal annually if no other notice is given, or it may state monthly. Depends on what is written.
