Legal Question in Immigration Law in Arizona

A friend of mine (ex-boyfriend, really) has spent 31 of his 33 years living here in the US. His mother brought him over from Mexico when he was two. He has gone through the public school system, married, had two American born children and eventually divorced here. He knows no other way of life besides American. BUT he has lived here illegally the whole time. How does he obtain citizenship?

He can't. He is not eligible for US citizenship.

He is not even eligible for a Green Card (which is usually a first step to becoming a US citizen in the future). I understand that he was brought into USA illegally without a visa.

If no one ever petitioned for his residency, he will need to go back to Mexico to apply for a visa (if, for example, petitioned by a wife), and even then he can be denied (if a waiver is not granted).

He should consult a knowledgeable immigration attorney (not a "notario" or a "consultant").
