Legal Question in Personal Injury in Arizona

Do I Need a Liability Release?

I am helping a friend rebuild a really trashed motorcycle he bought. In fact, I am doing virtually all of the work, as he doesn't have a garage. I have rebuilt the brakes, carbs, suspension, etc. for no charge. I paid for the parts and I have made out a separate promissory note for him to sign so I can get my money back.

I understand from another friend that I should get a liability release signed by the guy I am helping out, otherwise he could get in an accident and sue me for everything my family owns. I am not a mechanic and have not had any formal motorcycle repair training - just a weekend mechanic helping out a friend.

My questions:

Do I need to get him to sign a liability release form?

If so, how should I word it?

What do I do if he will not sign it?

Thanks very much for your time and consideration.

Best Regards,

Chet Rogers

Re: Do I Need a Liability Release?

You are really "hanging out" on this one. Friendships can be over in a flash if all goes wrong. You need to protect yourself and family.
