Legal Question in Workers Comp in Arizona
A friend was traveling to IL from AZ for work. The employer's corp headquarters is in CO. She had taken some cold medication and went for wine after work with her boss and coworkers. It was rainy and she slipped off the curb when leaving. She had ankle surgery and is off her foot for the next 6 weeks. Is this eligible for workers comp?

An accident is covered by workers' comp if it both "arises out of" and "occurs in the course and scope of" employment. Leisure activities after work do not occur in the course and scope of employment, unless the activity was either mandatory or somehow benefitted the employer. The presence of the boss and co-workers does not make it a work activity.
