Legal Question in Technology Law in Arkansas

CD Burning

I am doing research on the legal issues surrounding cd burning, and I can't find anything on the matter other than opinion. So, is it a violation of copyright laws to copy a personal CD for personal listening? And is it illegal to burn music from the internet onto a CD for personal listening?

Re: CD Burning

Yes to both questions, assuming you do not have permission from the copyright owner.

However, it is not illegal to make a single copy of a CD for backup purposes without permission.

Copying a CD off the internet without permission of the copyright owner is generally illegal. There are a number of exceptions.

If you need specific information see a copyright lawyer and be prepared to pay for his or her time in advising you.
