Can a bailiff testify against a defendent during a preliminary hearing

Sure. That doesn't mean he'll be allowed to answer all of the D.A.'s questions. But the fact that he's a bailiff does not bar him from testifying.

Why not?? He is no different than any other witness.

As long as his testimony is not hearsay and relates to the case. If you want to prevent it, then properly object and let the judge rule on the objection.
