Legal Question in Disability Law in California

Handicap Parking Laws

Recently I went to my sons High School Football game and the handicap parking was about a quarter of a mile from the feild. The up close handicap parking spots had school vans parked in the handicap spots. Is there a law that requires the school to have available handicap parking for school events?

Re: Handicap Parking Laws

Obviously the school has the parking spaces required by law; someone violated the vehicle code and should have been ticketed for parking there. A written complaint to the administration should correct that in future.

Re: Handicap Parking Laws

It sounds like the buses were ileagally parked. Call the parking enforcement authority to have them ticketed. A school bus is not exempt from handicap parking regs.

Re: Handicap Parking Laws

1. Write to the principal, certified mail return receipt and demand that the spaces be kept free from school vehicles.

2. If school vehicles are still parked there after (1), take lots of pictures. Ask the school district for a "tort claim" form. Send this to the school district by certified mail. Wait 45 days and then sue them in small claims court for $5000. See Cal. Civil Code Sec. 51 at www.leginfo.ca.gov .
