Legal Question in Disability Law in California

Handicap Parking

I work in an office bldg that has alotted spaces for tenants (our office has one - which my boss uses) Since I am handicapped and have a legal placard I have been using the handicap spot (there is only one) I was told today by the building manager that it is for customers only and bldg tenants cannot use it. Is this legal?

Re: Handicap Parking

The answer to that depends upon the building plans and approvals, and the ADA rules applicable to that building. Start by contacting the Dept of Fair Employment and Housing or the EEOC and requesting a pre-filing interview. If they say the bldg decision is ok, accept that. If they say it is not, then feel free to contact me to discuss your legal options. You could also have your attorney immediately contact the bldg and try to negotiate a resolution acceptable to you. Feel free to contact me if interested.
