Legal Question in Disability Law in California

Other party was convicted in a criminal court of fraud and sentenced to 9 years in prison along with paying restitution. Do I still need to file a civil suit against the other party to try and collect what I'm owed?

Even if the criminal court ordered restitution, you may never get a dime unless you sue and obtain a judgment against the person, and can then locate and collect on his assets. Be wise in deciding whether to spend money and time seeking a judgment. If he has nothing, then that is what you are going to recover. If you have good grounds to believe you will be able to collect from his assets, and if the the amount is substantial enough to justify spending attorney fees and court costs doing so, and if this is in SoCal, feel free to contact me.
