Recently disabled in a non-accessible apartment complex, what can I do?
I recently became temporarily
disabled (shattered knee, ACL,
meniscus, and misc torn muscles). I
cannot bend my leg currently (pre-
op) and post op, I will have several
months of limited mobility in the leg.
My question is, my apartment
complex is riddled with stairs and its
near impossible for me to get in / out
of my apartment complex without
aid. Does the apartment complex
have to make the complex more
accessible? Can my lease be broken
without penalty to seek more
hospitable housing?

From a practical standpoint, you probably need to find a new residence, and may be able to negotiate a lease termination because of the situation. It might take a lawyer's intervention to 'persuade' them. I wouldn't expect the complex to have to renovate their building at huge expense just for you, since I also expect that they meet 'code' as they are, since they are a large complex with regular governmental inspections.
