Legal Question in Banking Law in California
Hi-
I am a public school art teacher and I live in LA with a HUGE student loan debt that I
have been deferring for years because payment was so high.
I think I recently discovered something illegal regarding my (former) Citibank loans when looking at a recent credit report...
I discovered that Citibank had charged me for years late fees (and reported me as late on my credit report) when I was in a debt hardship forbearance and other approved deferments!
I never caught on to this until now but I have the official documents from Citibank to prove it-I requested them a week ago and they came in the mail today.
That has got to be illegal-or am I wrong?
Thanks,
Katherine

Aside from the fact that the statute of limitations might be up as far as taking legal action for things that happened "for years," you're like lots of people with student loans. They can't be discharged in bankruptcy, and you'll die before you can possibly repay it.
