Business website deal gone bad

We chose a ''friend'' in Ohio, who works in the computer industry, to set up a website for us. We handed him all our contact information, that we had spent countless hours collecting. After many unanswered emails and ignored phone calls we decided to make the site ourselves. We had sent him a cease and desist letter. Come to find out that he had called our contacts to open accounts and make his own website using all our contact information. Is there anything we can do about this? We feel we should be paid consulting fees for giving him contacts.

Settle, sue or walk away are your choices. You'll have to be able to show he appropriated your info and contacts, under a theory of breach of agreement and of interference with business. If you have a provable claim with merit and value, feel free to contact me if serious about pursuing this.
