CA Background Checks
Is an employer required to offer a job position in order to run a criminal background check?

Anyone who obtains a credit report or so-called "background check" has to get your permission in writing, or else you can sue them. If I were you I would not agree to one unless the employer agrees, at a minimum, to furnish you with a copy.

If you want a chance at the job, you will have to agree to the check as a part of the employer's qualification process.
