Legal Question in Business Law in California
California construction contract broken...
I am a licensed General Contractor in California. I have a signed contract in the amount of $22,212.00. I have many hours into a detailed estimate and 2 signed contracts with the homeowner. The first one to allow me to deal directly with her insurance company, as it is a water damage repair. The second one to complete the repairs for what her insurance company and my company agreed upon. The day before the job was to start, she arrives at my door claiming she is financial distress and her brother, who apparently is a Realtor, has convinced her to not make the necessary repairs and just sell the house. My question is what % is due to me for breaking a legal binding contract. I believe it is 10%, but would like to be sure on that.

You definitely have recourse to sue for the amount she was supposed to pay you; you may also be able to place a mechanic's lien on the property to preserve your right to payment. You need to act quickly to protect your rights. Feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss this further.
