Legal Question in Business Law in California
Client avoiding payment
What can I do legally?
I worked via 1-day contract with a company in September. Our contract stated I would be paid within 2 weeks. It has been about 8 weeks. They have made excuses, wrote a check that bounced, and promised a money order in the mail that never came.
I just want my payment.
Any answer would be much appreciated.
Thank you

Re: Client avoiding payment
Hopefully this isn't one of those internet scams where the victims are asked to cash bogus checks or some such. Remember, to avoid scams, deal locally.
If you are due wages, contact the State Labor Commissioner, Office of Labor Standards Enforcement.
If someone wrote you a bounced check, contact the district attorney's office, they may help you collect.
Re: Client avoiding payment
file a claim with the Labor Commissioner for the pay, interest and penalties, if they will take your claim. Otherwise, file a small claims court action.
