Legal Question in Business Law in California
Fired from job.
Friend was fired from job his been working at for over a year.
He received no notice, no reason for being fired.
My question is, is it not a law for company to give employee 2 week notice before laying them off and is it not employee's right to know why his being fired for?

No and no. You're 'at will' and can be fired anytime for any reason.

There is no law requiring an employer to give someone before firing them. And while the employee may have some rights to inspect their files, there is no right to know the reason for termination. If the form employee files for unemployment and the employer disputes the claim, then the employer has to specify a reason at that time.
